Renee may have a bit of anxiety if left for long periods of time. She sleeps a lot during the day and likes it quiet to rest. She also likes to be by your side at all times. Whenever I get up to go to another room, she gets up and comes lay right beside me. She seems to need reassurance.
To be honest, she seems to be an older dog that has lived a hard life. Maybe that is why she seems to be aged, and is just worn out. She could never stand up to going for long brisk walks, or to off leash dog parks where she may get jumped on by another dog. She's too frail for that. She seems to be that of an older dog than 7 years. Some of my Boxers at her age were in far better, younger shape than she is in. Maybe it's been her diet over the years, or even her genetics? Not sure why.

But I'll let my vet know what my concerns are with her. Her teeth and gums may even be a big part of her showing age. She has very bad breath, which tells me there is a problem in her mouth. Maybe tooth decay and for sure gum over growth. She needs her gums cut back and her teeth need to be cleaned up. Probably lots of bacterial in her mouth. I'll have my vet really listen to her heart, as Boxers her age are known to have heart problems.
The ideal home for her would be with a couple/single person that have no kids, or kids that are grown up and moved away, who like to go for a short slow walk during the day and are home during the day, or can take her with them, and of course would adore her and shower her with affection. A wonderful quiet home where she can play a little when she wants, and have lots of naps when she wants.

SUCCESS! RENEE'S GOAL WAS MET!!
A Medical Success Story from January 2007
Calling all Boxer Angels: From time-to-time one of our rescue's requires medical attention of one nature or another. When this is the case, we turn to our "Boxer Angels" to lend a hand in paying for vet visits, surgery and/or medication. Usually this is on a per-case basis, but if you would like to donate some money to the Medical Fund so that it will be there WHEN the time comes, we would certainly appreciate that. Hypothyroidism is a common problem in dogs, but rarely occurs in cats. The thyroid gland has a number of different functions, but it is most well known for its role in regulating metabolism. Hypothyroidism is the condition that occurs when not enough thyroid hormone is produced. We'd like to thank everyone who made a donation towards Ty's medical fund. All funds that were donated towards his medication have been used to help cover the cost of his diagnostic bill and cremation. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Trooper is a wonderful boy, about 6 years old; quiet, mellow and extremely affectionate. He takes his medications with a grimace, but a look of appreciation that could make one cry.
In addition, Trooper has a severe inner ear infection from prolonged infections that were not treated in his past. Poor Trooper walks with his head cocked sideways to combat the pain. This may require surgery, to the tune of $3000 and several months of recovery.

Bubba is as sweet as they come and that is what the staff of Squamish Animal Control thought when he arrived at the shelter as a stray. While in the care of Animal Control he underwent surgery to be neutered, have a full dental and to repair a severe case of cherry eye. He was then transferred to Without Borders. Once in our care a blood tumor burst on his leg and he was rushed in to have it cared for and removed. The tumor was removed, along with a couple of other bumps and a broken canine. Bubba's bills were over $500
Conroy is a high energy boxer. To meet this boy you would never guess he was 10 years old. He is so sweet and the kennel staff loved him! He arrived at a boarding kennel in January for a short stay, days, weeks and then months past and the kennel realized that this sweet boy
The staff loved him and felt even at his age he deserved the chance at a wonderful new life and called Without Borders. Conroy's bill was over $400 Meet Snow White. She's an 8 month old boxer pup with demodex mange. This condition is treatable but all to many owners seem to feel that it's just easier to drop their dog at the pound then to treat it. Poor Snow White was left behind when she did nothing wrong. She will soon be starting treatment for demodex and secondary skin infections. Her vet bills are estimated at over $300 Without Borders took in seven 5&1/2 week old mange puppies after their mom was treated for demodex mange and she could no longer nurse them. Demodex mange is none contagious and very treatable but working with pups this young proves to have some serious side effects to treatment. They are all being treated for demodex and some for secondary skin infections. The care required to get these babies from where they are now to healthy and happy puppies ready for adoption is a long and expensive road. Please help! We currently are up to about $300 per puppy (just over $2100 for all of them) in treatments and this does not cover the continued care, spay/neuters etc. |
